This morning was Grayson's 2 week check up for his eye with Dr. Lee. Taylor accompanied us & Doll came over to our house to stay with baby Bex, which was so nice. We headed over a little early to do some shopping & that was a lot of fun. Grayson is hilarious to take anywhere because he's really a pretty good little shopper. Of course he sometimes has his fits or wants something he can't have, but for the most part he is really understanding and compliments everything he sees. He definitely has the scowl down for when anyone that he doesn't know and/or feel comfortable with tries to look/talk/smile at him. We're working on this one! On the plus side, he never leaves my side & can walk with me or ride in the cart.
After some fun shopping, we headed to the doctor's. They took us back and Larry tested him with the pictures. He did better than last time and was happy & talking about his snowman at Taylor's the previous day. When Dr. Lee came in, I expressed concern about the little white tissue that kept popping out of his eye each day. I would have to push it back in when putting the cream in his eye & although it wasn't necessarily hurting him, it looked awful & was just gross. Sure enough, she said she wanted to cut it off. Oh great! Taylor can't handle any sort of medical procedure without needing to pass out, so she turned away & Dr. Lee explained to Grayson that she needed him to lay down on Mommy's lap and she was going to put a drop in his eye. He did it & she put it in and he shot back up and looked at her like, "What the heck was that for?" She gave him a kleenex to dab his eye (numbing drops). Then she explained to him about her two tools: tweezers to grab the tissue & special tiny scissors to cut the globby nodule off. {She used better English than me}! He was okay & I appreciated her remembering that he needs to be prepared with things. She then told Gray he needed to lay down again and Mommy was going to hold him down while she trimmed the little white piece off his eye so it wouldn't bother him anymore. He did this. Then she came toward his eye with the tools & all Hell broke loose. I totally realized at that moment why they put kids under for surgery. He is so strong! I couldn't hold him down by myself because he was moving his head too much while kicking me with his legs...total fight or flight response. So Larry had to come in and hold his head really tight & I just held his body to me really tight and she got it done in about 10 seconds. Easy peasy. It took about 3 minutes for Grayson to settle down & he wasn't quite ready to forgive Dr. Lee when we left, but by the time we were out of her office a while, he was okay again. And now he's grateful that white floaty thing is gone & so am I!
We made a couple more stops on the way home, including lunch & drink stops. After that I had to slam on my brakes & Taylor's soda flew out of the cup holder & into the front dash/floor mat, etc. You can tell my OCD-about-all-things-car-husband has trained me well because rather than being worried about the safety of my sleeping toddler who just may have gotten whiplash, I said, "Pick up your pop-hurry!" Unfortunately, the entire thing had spilled, so I pulled over when I could & we cleaned it up with wipes & an old towel I had in the car as best we could. Zac & I did some cleanup on it when we got home and it looks good as new, but it was crazy! (:
We got home to a happy baby & daddy who'd just gotten home & Gray and I were tired, but it was a really good day all in all. After some Gray & daddy cuddle time, Zac had stuff he wanted to work on at home, so the boys & I headed to my folks for dinner & to see the Walker family who were visiting overnight. Grayson totally warmed up to them and was so pleasant the entire evening. On the way there I told him we would stay as long as he was nice & good, but if he started making naughty choices, we'd have to go home. He said, "I will share with Jaeger because Jaeger is my best friend!" So sweet. He did great with Jaeger & playing with the kids Taylor & Talon are watching for a couple nights. Everyone except Grandma & Grandpa & Doll left before Walker's got there, so the boys got some time with just them for a bit. Then they got there with there 3 cute boys & Grayson just performed like crazy. Really uncharacteristic for him to warm up so quickly, but I was glad. We left after a while & took Zac some dinner. We cuddled on the couch while Z played xbox & I read my book.
