the best one yet

Zac and I celebrated 8 years of marriage on October 24th.  Because we'd spent the week previous on the coast with the kids, we kinda called that our anniversary gift.  We'd also given each other the gift of preordering Michael Buble and She & Him's Christmas albums which both came out on our big day.  Taylor and Talon had sweetly offered to watch our boys overnight so we could stay in Boise, but we ended up planning an all day/night meeting with Matt & Jen to go over our books.  Pretty romantic, eh? (:  We'd made the plans though, and were both okay with them.

We decided to make it an overnight meeting @ M&J's and just work as late as we could, especially since T&T were willing to love our boys overnight.  So, we dropped Beckham off to Morgan about 2 and she would pick up Gray from preschool later.  She'd watch them till Taylor got off work at 4 to pick them up.

We headed to Boise with a few hours to kill before our meeting started.  First we went to the BMW dealership.  Zac has been trying to convince me that when we switch my Acura out in a few years I should trade to an X5.  I LOVE my Acura and am a hard sell where it is concerned because it is honestly my favorite car to date.  He loves that I'm finally passionate about any car, so he enjoys conversations where we both get heated {teasingly & in good fun} about the separate cars.  He wanted me to test drive one, so we did just that.  And, I liked it.  A lot.  I admit it's a different feeling.  The only way I can explain it is that my Acura feels luxurious and homey.  The Bimmer feels luxurious and sporty.  We don't have to make a decision for a long time, but it was sure fun test driving it and we both had a blast.  Afterward we stopped by a CrossFit gym in Meridian because we are looking in to getting involved in that.  We love doing things like that together and although we could do most of it at home, we'd like to do a month or two at the facility to get the proper technique, form, and training before we commit to doing it ourselves at home.  That was fun, too.
Around 5 we headed to Matt and Jen's.  They and Cameron had made us a delicious Anniversary dinner of roast, veggies & potatoes.  It was seriously good food.  So sweet of them.  We visited for about an hour during dinner and then decided to get to work.  I told them I was going to put sweats on and they said to wait till after we'd read their card for us.  We opened it and it was a gift certificate to a hotel down the road from them for the night!  Their card was so sweet and they just told us that they know-better than most because of how involved they are in the business-how hard we are always working and that we rarely take leisure time together for ourselves.  They encouraged us to go enjoy an evening together, celebrating 8 years of marriage, and to have some intimate time on our anniversary.  They knew we were stressed about some business stuff, but said they'd come out Saturday afternoon and work for as long as it took to get the things accomplished we would have done then.  Wow.  I-of course-cried a little bit because it was such an incredibly thoughtful gift and totally unexpected.  Zac was completely appreciative too and we just realize how in tune M&J are with us and are so thankful for their friendship & for this priceless gift.
We hugged them & told them how much we love them, and headed out for the best night ever.  It was so fun and felt giddy to be going to a hotel just because.  Just to celebrate us and enjoy each other.  That has been TOO rare and we took total advantage of it.  The night was absolutely fun, perfect, and wonderful.  It was by far our best anniversary yet.  The reason?  No expectations going into it, almost an entire day spent doing things we wanted to do together, time with good friends who obviously care deeply about us, and an unexpected break from the mundane for the thing we need most in our relationship-time-with just one another.  Absolutely amazing.  Happy 8th Zac.  You are the best part about me and I love you so much, but more importantly, I like you a whole bunch.  More with each year.  Thanks for being you & for loving me.
