one of the great ones

Today {2/10} was just a great day.  Zac had to work in Boise all day and the boys & I had nowhere to be.  I had a list of 7 thing I wanted to get done if possible, but only one or two were really pressing.  It ended up being an awesome day.  We started off by inviting Jaeger over for a couple hours to play.  They all played fabulously, dressed up & ran around the living room {pulled all the cushions off the couch for a fort/obstacle course} for about 30 minutes, and just got along great.  About 15 minutes before Lance got here, they settled down to a movie. We did lunch & Beckham went down for his almost 4 hour nap.  Grayson and I had a great time while he slept.  We decorated hearts for Zac's "work door" and heart attacked him.  We made homemade oreos for Daddy and Grandpa Newell, worked on a few of Gray's valentine's, and Grayson was super cuddly and wanted to just sit on my lap for a 25 minute period, which literally NEVER happens.  I soaked it in and loved it for what it was.  After Beckham woke up I worked on a couple things while they rode bikes & played in the empty side of the garage.  I love hearing them play.
We needed to get out for a little jaunt after being cooped inside all day, so we got the stuff together & ran to Grandpa Newell's and Grandma Wendy's to take the cookies & a Valentine.  We hadn't been over there in a few weeks, so it was a much needed visit.  On the way there I thought about mentioning to Grayson that Lyla might be there.  Surprisingly before I could he said, "I hope Lyla is there."  WHAT?  I kinda chuckled under my breath and as we pulled in the driveway, I saw Chelsey's car and realized she was there so I said, "Remember, we need to be nice to Lyla, okay?"  He said, "Mom, I already am.  I like her."  Okay, if you say so!  Just every little thing he did was making me smile.  From getting out of his seat himself, helping me carry his Valentine's in the house, telling Acey the doc to get down in a kind way without stressing, and then walking in and handing his cookies & valentine's over.  He told them about his war wound at Grami's the day before and was so animated in his version of the story.  He played so well with Lyla and Beckham, and protected them & pretended with them.  I was seriously amazed and so pleased.  Beckham ran crazily around picking up each Star Wars movie he could find & talking about it like mad.  He is hilarious.  And crazy obsessed.  Seriously.  We visited longer than I thought we would stay and Grayson kept saying, "I hope it's not time to go yet."  When it was time, he almost melted & then caught himself and handled it very grown up like.  I was super impressed.  Grandpa asked him about his owie real quick before we left and his rendition went something like this, "It started last time I was at Grami's and I was in the basement with Doll and I was on the couch.  Suddenly, I like jumped off the couch and broke my thumb.  I ran up to show mom."  He said, "Did it bleed?"  Gray said, "A little bit."  Grandpa asked, "Did you cry?"  Gray said, "A little bit.  It's getting better now."  Haha, a little bit is a little bit of an understatement, but he is sure cute.

We said our goodbyes with promises to not stay away so long, stopped to drop off a valentine at Grami & Grandpa's and came away with dinner!  So nice!  The boys were super cute there as well and just happy and giddy to see them, give goodbye hugs & kisses, and saying goodbye.  I was laughing at them.  On the drive home I said out loud, "It's been a really really good day."

The rest of the evening progressed well and Zac acted accordingly happy & surprised and thankful upon seeing his door & cookies.  We are blessed to have these spirits in our home and forget far too often to slow down and just enjoy them right where we're at.  No pressure or expectations, just loving, laughing, and watching.  So grateful for the reminder today.

Love the great ones, and I'm so glad you had one. I had to laugh at your eyebrow post. Who knew that eyebrows could cause such a fuss? I'm glad the Mary Kay ladies haven't seem me lately. Congrats to your parents on 30 years. That's awesome! Happy birthday to your mom, too. She seems so amazing!
