McCall surprise getaway

{8th-12th} We usually go to the Oregon Coast each Fall with the boys and had five days carved out to go in October, but as it got closer, life got crazier, and we realized there was no way we could justify a 9-10 day vacation, the gas to get there, and missing that much work, so we decided to chat about other options.

We talked about how the boys don't care where we go, they just want uninterrupted time away from home with us.  Because as much as we try not to let life bog us down, it oftentimes does, and getting away from home lessens that.

So we talked about going to McCall.  We didn't know when we'd make it happen.  Mom called Monday {8th} and said it was their week at the McCall house and if we wanted to go up we were welcome.  I told her I didn't think there was any way we could get away with short notice, but told Zac and he thought we better just take advantage of it while we could.  So, with just a few hours notice, I packed us up & he feverishly worked to get some things done, left Louis to work & watch the house, and we were off.  {after repairing a nail in a tire} (:

We both brought work-computer and all-but we felt good about the choice and the boys were ecstatic once we got on the road & they realized where we were going {I'd packed us up while Bex was napping & Gray was at preschool}, so that made it even more worth it.

We pulled into town Monday around 8 and grabbed a few things at Ridley's to take to the house.  Cooked a pizza, let the boys play for an hour, put them to bed, and watched UFC.
Tuesday morning was a bit stressful at first.  We had to mail 5 boxes full of phone returns, get a business loan payment to the bank, and it was my Client Celebration day.  After the first couple errands, instead of me going home to work, the guys went to eat at the Skater Cafe and I rolled down the windows & worked from the pickup.  It was a gorgeous day and I totally enjoyed myself and got lots done while the guys ate & walked around McCall.  They had fun finding a little Veteran's Memorial "park" and after I was done chatting with clients they insisted I visit it with them.  Captured some images I'll cherish forever, so I'm glad we did.  After that, we took the boys to Rite Aid {the only place in town that has anything resembling a kids aisle} and looked for some stuff to help keep them busy. (:  We found a few things, but joked the whole time about breaking bank for a cheap toy & agreed if we lived here we'd be best friends with amazon next day shipping!  We each took a kid in the grocery store & played hide and seek while shopping which both boys thought hilarious and admittedly, it was really fun!
We got back to the house & vegged for a while.  I challenged Grayson to a game of bowling on the wii & got 4 strikes in a row!  He kept saying, "Mom!  You are awesome at this!" So adorable.  We ate & the boys watched the Tigger movie till Bex cuddled up with me and fell asleep.  Boys in bed, Zac and I spent the evening together.

The boys really love McCall and I'm grateful they do.  We did lots of walking around McCall, played at a cool park we discovered, watched shows, took nature walks, had a playdate with Tasha and the triplets {they live there now!} which was fabulous, ate yummy pizza at a restaurant, and enjoyed being together.
I'm grateful that even though our coast trip didn't work out, things came together for this little family vacation to work out, and that we are trying to make what matters most a priority in our lives.
