Party Hard

I'm finally finding some time to post about our weekend. At the doctor's office, I found out that Gray is just a little prone to croup type colds & was prescribed those dang yucky steroids & benadryl...Poor kid hates going to the doctor but does great when they give him a coin to take home afterward. He did super well with the medicine on Friday & Saturday because I'd say, "Take your medicine and then you get a popsicle" and he just did it so well. Sunday was a different story, but 2 out of 3 was great! Anyway, he's been sick-o & I just feel awful for him. Coughing like crazy & a fever for a few days. We've been spending lots of down time at home which is kind of nice. Friday Grayson got a package in the mail from Greg & Kylee with a book & a sweet card, a cool star wars card from Jhett that plays the theme song & a package from Aunt Taylor with some clothes, a coloring book & crayons, a card that yells Happy birthday, and best of all...her head on a straw! He loved it. It was hilarious! He just kept talking to her and dropped her once and said, "Oh now, I dropped aunt Tayer!" It was pretty cute.
After his doctor's appointment, we stopped by Nana's to say hi and she let him open another gift from her. It was a cute shirt that said, "Woohoo! I'm 2!" He wasn't super interested in the shirt at the time with the temptation of toys calling his name, but started saying the phrase later. Cute! Friday night Courtney came over to my mom's and helped me (basically she & my mom did everything) make Gray's cake. It was quite the process and I appreciate more the work she goes to when making cakes! The fondant was so yummy too and the cake turned out better than I'd even hoped. I loved it! I can't thank Courtney enough for her kindness. Grayson LOVED it too which was the main goal!Saturday late afternoon was his party and he was definitely not feeling up to par, but was still a great sport. My mom had frosted the cupcakes so cute & we had sodas, 7 layer dip & chips, hot pizza dip & bread to dip, and super yummy smoked pork & hot mustard. Great appetizers & I think everyone enjoyed the food. We all ate and visited first which was fun.
Amber & Ella came for a little bit too which was fun-she loves Grayson and he adores her and liked having someone to watch him drive his car & play with toys which was a nice distraction to feeling yucky. They gave him a Mr. Strong doll which was hilarious because Zac has just started working out so we were teasing him with Mr. Strong sayings all night. After eating, Gray opened his presents. He would have been content with just the first one because immediately after opening he would take it to Papa Alan and say, "open it!" then we'd have to remind him that he had more things to open. Such a funny kid. He got a Mr. Potato head, some Thomas the train tracks & trains, puzzles & the big hit-the cash register, from us. Mom & Dad C. gave him a tool set with a drill that really spins & makes noise and was also a big hit. Taylor, McCall, & Lance & Kelsey gave him a Leapfrog clickstart computer & Cars game which I know he'll love when we actually get around to setting it up! Mom & Dad Pete got him a toddler bed which hasn't come yet, but I know he'll love it when it gets here...and hopefully the transition won't be too awful! Grayson appreciated everything & everyone being there & we appreciate all the support as well. He loves everything & has parked the toys in the living room for the time being!Even Aunt Taylor made an appearance at the party! See if you can find where she pops up later!
Checking out the cash register with Aunt Doll & the tool set with Papa Cleaver.
Ella really liked my dad & is in this stage of doing the cutest scrunchy nose face right now. She is just adorable! Like I mentioned before, Zac has been working out the past week and has done calves for the first time in about two years. He did over 900 repetitions his first workout and needless to say, he could barely walk for two days. It was actually quite comical and he had to be helped getting anywhere. His mom was kind enough to massage his calves & he spent some time in my folks hot tub after the party was over!
After presents, we lit the candles on the cake...& let Grayson blow them out. He blows more like spitting on it, but did get them out. Notice the drill in his hand. Then notice his sneaky Uncle Lance by him coaching him on how to drill his cake! I couldn't believe it. But, it opened the door for eating it and boy was it yummy! The fondant is seriously yummy if you like marshmallows at all. So good! I ate almost the whole rope myself!
We had to have several blowing out the candle episodes, although only one happy birthday singing episode. He is such a funny kid.
This was about the best family shot we could get.
Enjoying a cupcake after blowing out candles & drilling the cake a few times. (: Everyone started leaving afterward and we hung out at Nana & Papa Pete's for a while longer before heading home and putting a very tired boy in bed...Thanks to everyone who helped with his party & especially my parents for making it a successful night. I've decided from now on, we'll pretend his birthday is in April and then maybe he won't be sick every year! (:

Sunday we all stayed home from church as none of us felt the greatest. Poor Grayson was so lethargic all day and fought a nap all afternoon. Around 6 pm, this is how he looked. My mom put these "big boy underwear" in his stocking at Christmas and he loves wearing them over his diaper. So cute! He was feeling too yucky to even play toys & after getting in his jammies he fell asleep on the couch between us. I hate when he's sick but love the extra cuddling time! Zac and I watched X-Men Origins: Wolverine after that and it was surprisingly good. He was feeling less sore and gave me a great back/shoulder massage during the movie which was nice. I'm glad to be starting a new week & hoping that Gray is on the mend!

First, Gray looks so old in those undies. So so cute! Second, you would have never known he was sick. He is such a cute kid. Third, I LOVE the cake!!! SUPER cute. Jhett would have loved it too. I spotted Taylor again by the cake...do I get a prize? I actually wanted to ask you tonight about the crib/baby situation with Gray. BUt you answered my question he's getting a new bed. How exciting. Jhett might have to make that transition too. We'll see. Thanks for calling me tonight. I'm sorry I didn't call back. I still can't believe Grayson is 2. Where did time go? Love ya!

That is the cutest cake ever! I wish I could have had some of it! I watch all of the cake making shows on TLC and the Food Network and they always make me crave cake. Your party for Grayson looked so cute and makes me feel the need to step it up for my kids!

Hey the cake turned out great! I'm all in favor of helping people to make a cake because even if they never do it again they gain such an appreciation for the crazyness involved in making one. You guys did great! Happy birthday little Grayson!

Okay, that is seriously one of the CUTEST cakes I've ever seen! Love it! It looks like Gray had an awesome birthday party. Sorry about the croup...no fun. We've been through that twice with Kacen, too. YUCK! Hopefully Gray is feeling 100% better really soon!
