a child's prayer

Saturday May 5th, Jeremy called and asked if he could take Grayson with him & his kids to the Home Depot workshop.  He hadn't been in a few months, so was excited about it.  So sweet of Jeremy to ask-they are really great to my kids.  They took off and Zac, Beckham & I got lots done at home.  Lance & Jaeger were at Home Depot too, so Gray caught a ride home with them and then we kept Jaeger for a couple hours to play.  They were all so cute eating lunch and playing outside together.  After J-man left, Grayson had a bit of a meltdown and I asked him to take a time out on the stairs outside.  Beckham immediately went out and sat beside him.  He adore his big brother.  They were goofy after he had served his time and I love their little friendship. They drew on the trampoline with chalk for a while and Grayson was pretty adorable with his self portrait. (:
Zac, Talon, and Lance went shooting together near the shop.  Zac loves his brothers in law-they are really his best friends-and he had a blast.

That evening I was heading into Maryn's baptism and noticed Grayson didn't have his glasses on.  I asked him where they were and he said, "Lance's pickup."  He's not supposed to take them off in random places, but I figured they were fine, so didn't even call Lance at the time.  The baptism went great and Maryn is such a cutie.  We all love her around here.  We hung out at Pete's place after the baptism {I'd ridden with my folks} & ate Mexican food.  I had cauliflower pizza that was delicious!  Beckham was in major entertainment mode and made us all laugh so hard.  We asked him to do his mean face & he gave us the cheesiest one I've ever seen.  He would do it on command and also danced for everyone.  Such a ham!
I didn't think about the glasses again til Sunday & texted Kels to ask Lance to bring them to church.  Turns out, they weren't in his pick up.  So, I started to panic a little and asked Grayson to think about where he'd actually put them.  He kept umming and hmming, so I know he couldn't remember.  He said, "Maybe home depot?"  Lance was sure he'd had them in his pick up afterward and thought he'd seen them come in the house with him.  We enjoyed the rest of our Sunday resolved to find them Monday morning.

Monday May 7th, the boys woke up and we set out on a mission to find Gray's glasses.  We searched every toy box/drawer/closet/piece of furniture, etc.  We looked in all the vehicles, all the usual places, called Home Depot, etc.  In the midst of the chaos, I suggested to Grayson that he might want to say a prayer and ask Heavenly Father to help him find the glasses.  He said, "I don't want you to hear, I'll go in my room." {Totally his personality}  Beckham was in there with him and of course Zac and I stood with our ears pressed against the door.  He said, "Dear Heavenly Father, I'm thankful for this day.  Please bless me to find my glasses.  In the name, of Jesus Christ, Amen."  Meanwhile, he had Beckham parroting, "tankful for dis day!  Name of Jesus Christ, AAAAMen!"  Totally adorable and made my heart so happy to hear his heartfelt & innocent prayer.  We hopped away from the door and he walked out and said, "I did it.  Let's keep searching."  I-at this point-said a prayer of my own asking Heavenly Father to please let Grayson's prayer be answered in hopes of a tiny seed of testimony growing in his heart.  He is a stubborn little guy and is going to need all the personal revelation he can get, so I pleaded with God to help us.

We searched and could not find them anywhere.  We took a break for naptime, and had really searched the entire place.  I prepared for FHE and dinner while the kids played.  FHE was centered on work {lesson found here} and the boys LOVED it.  We are not super consistent, but when we do it, they enjoy it and it's so worth it.  We did an object lesson using cans of food, talked about the little red hen story, and filled out chore charts.  It went great.  Afteward, I was putting the cans of food back in the pantry and while putting a can of black beans in the box, I spied something grey.  Yep, the glasses!  I have no idea how I missed them when I was taking the beans out, and definitely didn't know why they were in there, but I was psyched.  I called Grayson in and asked if he'd help me put the remaining cans away.  He ran in {still stoked from the work themed FHE} and got right to work.  He kept missing them and finally, his fingers brushed the rims.  He pulled them out, got an "O" look on his mouth and ran right past me to Zac saying, "Dad, LOOK!"  He was so excited & laughing.  I asked him why they were in there and it all came back to him.  After Lance had dropped them off, he and Jaeger had ran into the pantry to grab a fruit snack.  He threw them off on his way in and they just happened to drop into the bean box. (:
I reminded him about his prayer and encouraged him to say a prayer to thank Heavenly Father for answering his prayer.  He did so sweetly and we all went on with our evening.  I am thankful for this small and simple experience that Grayson will hopefully always remember.  I am thankful for a Heavenly Father who cares about my 4 year old & my desire to parent him in the best way possible and paid attention to his simple prayer.
