the joys of our boys

Wednesday night Maria Draper brought us the yummiest Chicken enchiladas (one of my favorite meals). It was so kind of her to think of us and she also made homemade rolls (that were incredibly similar to Marjory Cameron's famous rolls!). Thanks Maria!

Thursday Grami Tami watched Beckham so Grayson and I could run a couple errands. We went to the post office and to see Rick the Barber. He is the barber in town and I decided to just bite the bullet and take Grayson in to see him. I have been seriously procrastinating getting the kids hair cut because he hates it so much. It literally pains me to see him scream like he does and I just hate the hassle, so I don't fight with him about it. But, his hair was getting out of control-like ridiculously out of control-so I just decided on a whim that we'd go see Rick. I tried preparing Grayson and told him if he got his haircut he could get some M&M's (his favorite candy) and ride the kid tractor at Grandpa Alan's house. He was okay with it. We got there and went in and Rick had me sit on the chair with Gray on my lap. Then the screaming and flailing ensued.

Much screaming.
Much flailing. (is that a word?)

I locked his feet & legs between mine and held his arms down and Rick did a great job trying to acclimate him to the sound of the clippers and we both tried distracting him. About halfway into it he stopped crying and only sniffled and asked questions about different things in the room. When he was done {and we were both COMPLETELY covered in his hair} he said, {while sniffling} "Thank you." Rick asked him for a hug and he gave him one. I could not believe how much better & how much older he looked-so cute! Then Rick gave him a quarter and a cup and pointed him toward the candy machine where Grayson got to get his M&M's as promised. As soon as we got outside & I was laughing to myself about the whole experience and wondering why my child is totally traumatized by haircuts, Grayson has the sweetness & gumption to say innocently {and while still sniffling & eating m&m's}:

"I love Rick the Barber."
Uh huh...right-it was so obvious I was wondering how I missed that.
My response:
"Me too friend. Me too."
Before {feeling a little anxiety}
after {piece of cake mom!}

Today Grayson got to play at the Cleaver's house while I took Beckham to his 2 week appointment & got my eyebrows done. The Cook Family had stayed the night, so he was excited to have cousins to play with too. He has recently taken to calling Grandpa Cleaver "Papa Newell," Morgan is "Aunt Morgan," and Grandma is "Cweaver." Just that. Not Grandma Cweaver or Grandma Wendy. Oh no, he thinks her name is just "Cweaver." Thankfully she thinks it's endearing and we think it's pretty funny too! Beckham's appointment went well. His stats were:
Weight: 8lbs. 3oz.
Height: 20 inches
I can't say enough how much I love Dr. Matt. He is so thorough and reassuring and just loves the babies a ton. Beckham was alert and sweet the whole time and slept during my eye appointment too. We headed back to Cleaver's and visited there for a while which was fun. Em & Chels are both getting anxious for their babies to get here now too & it will be fun to have 3 babies at family events this Fall & Winter. Always grateful to have family so close!

That cracks me up that he is so scared by getting his haircut. I love that he sad he loves rick the barber but I bet the next time you take him in he will scream again. Your boys are so cute, I cannot wait to see them!
